Iowa: “Ambivalent Appreciation”

After getting some feedback that people would prefer I add more commentary on why I picked certain photos, I thought I would start doing so on the easiest submission, Iowa.  L. Petersen  took these photos from Emmetsburg, Iowa on Oct. 16, 2009 from 9-10am.  Ms. Petersen also submitted a description of each photo so I will include them after each photo in italics.

Maple – Fall Beauty at Harrison Park

I like the sense of solitude you get from this view of the park.  Also by framing the shot tighter, Ms. Petersen was able to eliminate the overcast sky, which she noted the park would be “better in sunlight but leaves may be soon gone”

Interest at Crossroads” – Wildlife/Agriculture/Commercial Land For Sale

I like the convergence in this photo of the three different subjects that aren’t obvious.

I think Casey did a great here showing why NJ is called the Garden State.

I think this picture is a great example of sprawl encroaching on nature.

Nice sense of balance in this photo and I like the sky clearing and the wet street.

This picture could be anywhere, but the L lets you know it is Chicago.

I don’t know why, but I seem to like the grittiness in this photo.

Greetings from the Bay State

These photos were submitted by C. Cruz Dintino from MA.

MA (4)a

Picture from what might be one of the prettiest city drives in the US.  Yeah, I’m a little biased.

MA (1)

I like the efficient use of a last photo at the post office before returning the camera.

   MA (8)a

A common scene in MA: traffic and a Dunkin Donuts.    MA (17)

A little live music at Oktoberfest in Harvard Sq.

 MA (22) MA (24)b

I don’t think it is possible to go to Cambridge (particularly Harvard Sq.) without seeing a protester of some sort and a mime.  MA (25)a_edited-2

One of the great stores that gives Harvard Sq. so much character

MA (27)

Not sure what happened here in Harvard Yard, but I like the leftover chaos.
