Project Update: ID, IL, DE, KS, KY, ND, SD, WV, WI, WY

Thanks to a few people recently (Alison, Candice, and Lindsey) , I have gotten a few other states lined up (AL, OH, & OK).  I didn’t expect Illinois to be difficult, but I don’t know anyone in Chicago currently as they have all moved recently.

Any help on these states would be much appreciated.

I haven’t received any cameras back yet, but hope to see some by the end of this week.

Project Plans (in more detail)

Here is the letter I sent out with all of the cameras:

The 50 Perspectives on America project idea is to send a disposable camera to 50 people in 50 states. Subject matter would be up to the photographer and can be anything at all. The time period would be until Oct. 24th. Could all be in one sitting (say 27 pictures at a party) or could be on various days. Doesn't have to be any "event", just something the photographer thought looked good and would want to share. There does not need to be a theme to the pictures you submit.

Rules for the project:

  1. No pictures of any illegal activities
  2. No nude (partial or full) pictures. I have nothing against nude photography, but do not want to create any hassles with the developer.
  3. No Halloween pictures. This rule is only because I don’t want 50 versions of Jack O’Lanterns, witches, etc.
  4. Cameras must be postmarked by Oct. 24th, 2009

The best picture will win a photo book comprised of all of the photographs from the project. The next 4 photos will win an 8 x 10 copy of their photograph.

All rights to all photos submitted are reserved by Allen Wong. Selected photos will be displayed at http://50perspectives.blogspot.com/. I will reserve the right to crop the pictures you submit if I see something interesting in only a portion of a picture you take. I will refrain from digitally enhancing the pictures other than minor contrast/brightness issues. Please fill out the enclosed form so I know who took the pictures so I can give proper credit. (Only First Initial, Last Name and City and State will appear on the website or book unless otherwise noted). Photos submitted without the included form will not be eligible for publication.

Thank you very much for participating and I look forward to all of the great photos that you produce!

Best wishes,

Allen Wong

First Wave is coming

The first wave of cameras were sent out this past Sunday (the main post office here in Boston is open 7 days a week from 6AM to midnight if anyone has any emergency mail to send).  Probably the earliest I will get any back is this weekend, but then I have to send them out for development and scanning, so end of next week is probably the earliest before any pictures hit this website.

AL, AK, DE, ID, IL, KS, KY, MN, MT, NE, ND, OH, OK, RI, SD, WV, WI, WY

These are the states that I need help with still on the photo project since they aren’t confirmed.  The ones I’m most concerned with are ID, KS, MN (which I find weird that I don’t know a third degree connection of any sort that lives in Minneapolis), ND, SD, and WV.  RI is easy enough for me to do myself if I have to, but I would like to refrain from getting involved if possible.

Project Update

I am still looking for people in certain states (WV, SD, ND are proving to be the hardest) with the list in constant flux.  I have some people committing, but still waiting on addresses.  I have some people asking friends (and waiting for confirmation).  So I’m in okay shape, but will probably be cutting it pretty close if I can get them mailed this week.

Realistically, I am going to have to most likely send cameras out in waves since some people need them sooner (due to travel plans) and I haven’t lined up all 50 states yet.  Hopefully that will even out the workflow of processing and scanning (though I would like to get all of the cameras at once to see if I can get any kind of bulk discount on development).

Any suggestions are welcome!

Project Plans

Project idea is to send a disposable camera to 50 people in 50 states. Subject matter would be up to the photographer.  Can be anything at all.  Time period would be over a few weeks. Could all be in one sitting (say 27 pictures at a party) or could be on various days.  Doesn't have to be any "event", just something the photographer thought looked good and would want to share.  The best pictures will show up here, maybe give an award to the 5 best photos, and hopefully publish some books.
